Stromae to release movie with footage of cancelled tour
Belgian pop star Stromae will release a free film featuring footage from his recent Multitude tour, he announced on Instagram on Tuesday night. It is the first time the musician has made a public statement since he cancelled his tour for health reasons in 2023.
"I am aware that this situation may have disappointed some people and I would have liked to end the Multitude adventure on a better note," he said. "That's why, with my team (...), we've put together all the existing images of the live show so that you can discover it for free or simply relive it."
Stromae cancelled his last European tour in May last year on health grounds. The tour had started in February 2022 and was to last until December 2023, with performances in several cities in France, Belgium and Germany.
Burnout and depression
Stromae has long struggled with health problems caused by the side effects of an anti-malarial drug he took during his world tour while performing in Africa. He put his career on hold in 2015 after experiencing hallucinations and insomnia. He has also spoken of his struggles with burnout and depression.
One of the most listened to French-speaking artists in the world, he returned to the stage in 2022 to present Multitude. This third album won him his sixth and seventh Victoire de la musique, France's most prestigious music awards. But recurring health problems meant that last year he put his career on hold again.
There is no fixed release date for the movie. "More information will come soon. I hope you enjoy the film," Stromae said.
