A 17-year-old boy was injured in a shooting in the Brussels municipality of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean on Thursday, the Brussels public prosecutor's office has confirmed.
The public prosecutor's office is not commenting on the circumstances of the incident or the ongoing investigation at this time. According to Het Laatste Nieuws, the victim was shot by two masked individuals.
The shooting took place at around 14.35 between Rue de l'École and Parc Bonnevie. When the Brussels West police arrived at the scene, they found a 17-year-old boy who had been shot in the legs.
Police inspectors administered first aid before the victim was taken to hospital by emergency services. Initial investigations suggest that the shots were fired in Parc Bonnevie, where projectiles and bullet holes were found.
Second shooting in two days
The public prosecutor's office called in the federal police laboratory, appointed a forensic doctor and a ballistics expert, and ordered an analysis of CCTV footage from the area. An investigation into the exact circumstances and perpetrators is still underway.
The public prosecutor's office has also opened an investigation into a shooting that took place in the same municipality on Wednesday evening, at the intersection of Chaussée de Gand and Rue de la Borne. Several bullet holes were found in the façade of a building, but no injuries were reported.
