Four people in critical condition after shooting in Sint-Niklaas

Shortly after 02:00 on Friday, police responded to reports of gunfire near Grote Heimelinckstraat and Entrepotstraat, close to the Sint-Niklaas freight station. Emergency services arrived to find four individuals in critical condition. All four were taken to the hospital.
Police have since arrested six suspects. The area was cordoned off Friday morning as forensic investigators examined the scene. The East Flanders public prosecutor’s office has taken over the case.
While authorities have not confirmed a motive, the incident may be linked to a criminal underworld dispute. “All avenues are being explored,” said a spokesperson for the public prosecutor’s office, which is withholding further comment until more facts are established. Sint-Niklaas mayor Lieven Dehandschutter (N-VA), currently on vacation, was informed and also referred questions to the prosecutor’s office.
Shooting in Brussels
Another shooting occurred overnight in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek in Brussels, injuring a 27-year-old man. The victim was found on Industriekaai and taken to the hospital. His life is not in danger.
Brussels public prosecutor's office spokesperson Laura Demullier confirmed that a forensic pathologist, ballistics expert, and the Federal Judicial Police were called to the scene. No suspects have yet been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
