Suspect arrested for shooting incident at Brussels Midi Station after cup final

Brussels police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with a shooting at Brussels Midi station on Sunday evening, in which a Club Brugge supporter sustained a gunshot wound to the ankle. The suspect was identified by a patrol from the Brussels North police zone and taken into custody on Thursday evening.
The shooting occurred after the Belgian Cup final between Club Brugge and Anderlecht, which saw significant unrest in the city. Violent clashes broke out between supporters, with incidents reported at Brussels-Central station, the city centre, and other areas. Shops were vandalised, and public property damaged as groups of fans moved through Jette and Sint-Jans-Molenbeek.
Following the match, more violence erupted on the metro, including an attack on Club Brugge fans at Midi station, where a group armed with baseball bats, sticks, glass bottles, and a cleaver assaulted supporters.
Unrest continued into Monday evening, as groups clashed with police near Place de la Bourse, leading to 12 additional arrests. Officers deployed tear gas and water cannons to restore order.
The disturbances caused extensive damage, including 70,000 euros in vandalism at the King Baudouin Stadium and 40,000 euros in damage to metro trains. Police made 63 arrests related to the violence. The investigation remains ongoing.
