Medical waste specialist Ecosteryl acquires French company

Medical waste specialist Ecosteryl has acquired the French company Bertin Medical Waste. The aim of the acquisition for the company based in Mons is to position itself as the world leader in 100 per cent electric technologies for medical waste treatment.
Like Ecosteryl, Bertin Medical Waste is active in the microwave segment of medical waste disinfection. Both offer alternatives to incineration or autoclaving (sterilisation by pressure), which are considered too harmful to the environment.
According to Ecosteryl, the businesses will complement each other. Bertin Medical Waste mainly offers on-site treatment solutions for hospitals, clinics and laboratories, with machines capable of processing 10 to 150kg of medical waste per hour. Ecosteryl installs machines that process 75 to 500kg per hour and offers sorting of disinfected waste.
“Through this technological synergy, we now have consistency in the complementary nature of the range offered on the market to different users,” said Ecosteryl CEO Romain Dufrasne.
