Belgian food giant Puratos acquires American nut butter specialist

Belgian food giant Puratos has acquired Vör Foods, a specialist in nut butters and nut-based fillings in the United States. Puratos says the acquisition will enable it to better respond to growing customer demand for products such as Dubai chocolate.
Puratos, headquartered in Groot-Bijgaarden near Brussels, is a global supplier of products for bakers, pastry chefs and chocolatiers. The group is strengthening its position in the United States with the acquisition of the ten-year-old company Vör Foods, based in Pennsylvania, just half an hour's drive from Puratos' US headquarters.
Vör Foods specialises in nut butters and nut-based fillings made from pistachios, hazelnuts, almonds, cashews and nut blends. Its products complement Puratos' own nut-based fillings, enabling it to better respond to the growing demand for such products. According to the press release about the deal, nut-based ingredients are one of the fastest-growing product categories in the bakery sector.
The acquisition is expected to accelerate the innovation of nut-based products in the US. Puratos says this will enable it to better respond to growing demand from its customers for products such as Dubai chocolate.
According to De Tijd, Vör Foods has several dozen employees. Its products are used by some of the largest and best-known food groups in the US and are thus indirectly available on the shelves of supermarket chains such as Whole Foods, Walmart, Costco and Target. They are also available on Amazon.
Puratos is investing heavily in the US and has built several new (production) facilities there in recent years, including for pastry glazing. The Belgian company employs a total of more than 11,000 people, with offices in 87 countries and 76 production units in 52 countries. In 2024, the food company had a turnover of 3.4 billion euros.
