44 flights cancelled or diverted at Brussels Airport after cyberattack

A total of 44 flights from Brussels Airport have been cancelled or diverted on Sunday as a result of Friday's cyberattack on an external service provider, a spokesperson confirmed.
To avoid long queues and late cancellations, airlines were initially asked to cancel half of the day's 257 scheduled departures. In the end 38 have been cancelled and six diverted.
Additional staff have been called in, but the problems will continue to impact operations, as check-in still has to be done manually. The airport expects long waiting times and delays, with no solution in sight.
Management advises passengers to check the status of their flight with the airline and only travel to the airport if their flight has been confirmed. People whose flight is confirmed should arrive two hours in advance for Schengen flights and three hours for flights outside the Schengen zone.
Like several other European airports, Brussels Airport has been experiencing technical problems with its check-in and boarding systems since Friday evening due to a cyberattack on an external service provider, the American company Collins Aerospace.
