Record number of passengers at European airports in first half of 2025

The number of passengers using European airports rose by 4.5 per cent to over 1.073 billion in the first six months of this year. This made the first half of 2025 the busiest ever, according to the industry organisation ACI Europe.
International passenger traffic accounted for the largest share of this increase, rising by 5.7 per cent. Passenger volumes in the first half of the year were 5.1 per cent higher than before the start of the Covid-19 crisis, when European airports welcomed almost 1.015 billion passengers in the first half of 2019.
The European airports that recorded the strongest growth in the past semester were those in Slovakia, with a 19.2 per cent increase, Poland, which saw 14.9 per cent more passengers, and Hungary, which recorded a 14.2 per cent increase.
In mid-July, Brussels Airport announced that it had welcomed 11.28 million passengers in the first six months of the year – a 4 per cent increase on the same period last year. This was the airport's best first half-year since 2019.
