Five million passengers at Brussels Airport during summer holidays

In July and August, around five million passengers travelled through Brussels Airport. That is three per cent more than during last year's summer holidays, Brussels Airport announced on Monday.
In August, the airport welcomed 2.5 million passengers, the same as in July. Due to the end of the summer holidays, the number of arriving passengers was very high, 200,000 more than departing passengers. With a total of five million passengers in the summer, the airport is closing in on the record of 5.3 million set in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last August, there were an average of 152 passengers per flight, one more than in August 2024. The total number of flight movements also increased, by two per cent, thanks to an equal increase in passenger flights. The ten most important countries in the past month were, in order: Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Morocco, Portugal, Germany, France, the United States and the United Kingdom.
The number of cargo flights fell by one per cent. Total cargo volumes however rose by three per cent compared to August last year, with 57,994 tonnes transported last month. The volume of flown cargo increased by 13 per cent to a total of 53,606 tonnes.
On the other hand, there was a five per cent decline in the full-freight segment, while belly cargo remained stable compared with last year. Express services saw a sharp increase of 38 per cent, while trucked cargo volumes declined by 51.5 per cent. The main import and export regions were Asia, Africa and North America.
