Walloon aviation company Sonaca signs 'biggest contract in its history' with Airbus
Walloon aerospace company Sonaca has signed the "biggest contract of its history" with aircraft manufacturer Airbus at the International Aerospace Exhibition in Le Bourget, France, Sonaca announced on Monday.
"This makes Sonaca the official supplier for the flaps of the Airbus A321XLR, and extends the historically established contribution for the supply of the flaps of the A320 and A350, a press release says. The company calls the deal an "important step forward in its diversification strategy".
The A321XLR is the French aircraft maker's new single-aisle long-haul aircraft. Sonaca will produce the components for the aircraft at three of its main sites, in Belgium, Brazil and Romania. Mare than 160 staff will be involved in the construction.
In addition, Sonaca will continue to produce the flaps for the A320 and A350. "This shows renewed confidence in one of its key components and confirms Sonaca's industrial robustness and competitiveness," the company said on Monday. The value of the contracts was not made public.
