Venice organises Belgian beer weekend and welcomes 25 Belgian breweries

The Italian city of Venice is organising a Belgian beer weekend this coming weekend. From Saturday 18 to Monday 20 April, the city of the Doges will welcome 25 Belgian breweries to the market halls not far from the Rialto Bridge.
Since 1999, around fifty Belgian breweries have been presenting their products to professionals and the general public on the Grand Place in Brussels every first weekend of September. That concept was exported in 2010 to Japan, where several editions have taken place since then.
Italy is the first country in the European Union to organise an event of this scale. “It is an attractive market for many brewers in the federation,” explained Krishan Maudgal, CEO of the Belgian Brewers Association. Among the breweries travelling to Venice are the giant AB InBev and smaller players such as De Meester from West Flanders and Dupont from Hainaut.
Italy is the fourth-largest export market within the European Union for Belgian brewers, after France, the Netherlands and Spain. Exports of Belgian beer to Italy have doubled over the past ten years and are estimated to have reached around 859,000 hectolitres in 2024.
