Duvel Moortgat brews Chouffe beer in US

Brewer Duvel Moortgat has been making its Chouffe beer in the US for the US market since the end of 2024, the company has confirmed to Belga. Previously, the speciality beer was brewed exclusively in Belgium.
The decision was not communicated by the brewery at the time but is notable now that the US wants to increase local production by imposing trade tariffs on imported goods.
Duvel Moortgat is a member of Belgian Family Brewers, a label that emphasises authenticity and family anchoring of Belgian breweries. The label requires Belgian ownership and brewing capacity, but allows controlled additional production abroad, provided the original recipe and quality process remain under Belgian supervision.
The company has long been active in the US, operating breweries in New York, California and Missouri that produce mainly local craft brands. The Missouri site, which was acquired in 2013, has begun brewing Chouffe.
The group’s classic Belgian beers – including Duvel, Chouffe and De Koninck – were exclusively brewed in Belgium until the end of 2024. LaChouffe is made at the Achouffe brewery in Luxembourg province by Brassiere Achouffe, part of the Duvel Moortgat group.
Duvel Moortgat, headquartered in Antwerp province, says the Chouffe brewed in the US is a limited production in cask, intended for local distribution. Its other Belgian beers will not be brewed in the US for the time being, and Belgian-made Chouffe continues to be exported to the US.
