Triple murder suspect convicted of domestic violence a week before killings

The suspect in a triple murder in Roeselare was sentenced to one year in prison, half of which was suspended, for domestic violence a week ago. He is suspected of fatally stabbing his ex-partner and two men on Sunday.
Local police received a call around midday reporting domestic violence on Meiboomlaan in Roeselare, according to the public prosecutor’s office. “Upon arrival at the scene, it appeared that a 47-year-old Afghan man had killed his former partner, a 43-year-old woman, in a stabbing,” the office reported on Monday.
It later emerged that the man had also fatally wounded a 45-year-old, an acquaintance of the family, on Kleine Weg, the prosecutor’s office said. “At around 20:30, a third call came in reporting a fatal stabbing. A 67-year-old man, who was also known to the suspect, was killed on Hoogleedsesteenweg.”
After a manhunt, the police apprehended the man at Izegem station.
The man had been sentenced to one year in prison, half of which was suspended, for domestic violence a week ago. He will be questioned and brought before the investigating judge.
