Man detained after three fatal stabbings

A man has been detained following three fatal stabbings in West Flanders on Sunday, the province’s public prosecutor has confirmed.

Three people were killed in three attacks in Roeselare. A 45-year-old man was stabbed to death outside a beauty salon around midday. Shortly after, it emerged that a 43-year-old woman had been killed in a house nearby. The public prosecutor’s office reports that the two were Afghan nationals. 

No information has been released about the identity of the third victim, who was found dead in the evening.

The perpetrator fled the scene but was caught on Sunday night at Izegem station after an intensive search involving police helicopters and road closures.

No further information is being provided by officials at this stage.
