Train services to and from Brussels Midi station suspended due to suspicious bag

All train services to and from the Brussels Midi railway station have been suspended since 14.20 and all platforms in the station have been evacuated. The station itself has not, however, been evacuated. The reason is the discovery of a suspicious bag.
“It concerns a suspicious bag that was found on a train,” stated An Berger, spokesperson for the federal police. “The train had to remain at Brussels Midi so that the suspicious bag could be examined. The train was fully evacuated and a perimeter was established, secured by the railway police and Securail. DOVO (the army’s bomb disposal unit, ed.) is now on site to further examine the bag."
“All domestic train services and the Eurostar have been suspended,” declared the train operator SNCB/NMBS. Passengers with a valid ticket can use the trams, buses and metros of Brussels public transport operator STIB-MIVB.
Around six weeks ago, on 23 March, train services around Brussels Midi were also suspended, and the station was evacuated after three suspicious packages were found. It was only after around three hours that the station then could be reopened. In total, the SNCB/NMBS then cancelled about 300 trains.
