Traffic resumes as suspicious packages at Brussels Midi station prove harmless

The three suspicious packages found on Monday evening at Brussels Midi railway station have all been checked and found to be harmless, the federal police have confirmed. Trains have been running again on most tracks since 20:02, and the station has also been reopened, infrastructure manager Infrabel says.
All train services to and from Midi had been suspended from around 17:20 on Monday after three suspicious packages were found, of which one was on a train on platform 20 and one as on platform 18. According to Infrabel spokesperson Frédéric Sacré, the train on platform 20 was travelling to Antwerp.
The incident caused major disruption at the capital’s main transport hub.
At around 19:45, the federal police announced that all the packages had been found to be harmless. “Since 20:02, trains have been able to run again at Brussels Midi, on all tracks except tracks 19 and 20,” said Infrabel spokesperson Thomas Baeken. “The station has also been reopened.”
Brussels public transport operator STIB-MIVB also confirmed that metro, tram and bus services were gradually resuming in the area. The company had earlier reported disruptions and diversions on several metro, tram and bus routes.
