Tinne Gilis beats sister in final to claim third European squash title

Belgium’s Tinne Gilis is European squash champion for the third time in her career. The top seed defeated her older sister Nele, the second seed, 3-1 in Saturday’s European Squash Championship final in Chartres, France.
27-year-old Tinne was the defending champion and won the European title in 2022, when she again beat her sister. 29-year-old Nele won the European title in 2019 and 2023. In 2016, she was runner-up after losing to France’s Camille Serme.
The tournament was cancelled in 2020 and 21 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, meaning the sisters from the Kempen region have shared the last five European titles between them.
No Belgians took part in the men’s competition. The final will be played later on Saturday between France’s Victor Crouin, the two-time defending champion and top seed, and his compatriot and second seed Baptiste Masotti.
