Three Belgians through to third round of Wimbledon women's doubles
Belgians Kirsten Flipkens, Elise Mertens and Greet Minnen are all through to the next round of the women's doubles at Wimbledon.
Flipkens made it through to the third round on Sunday with her Hungarian partner Timea Babos against American Lauren Davis and the Netherlands’ Rosalie Van der Hoek. Their match resumed on Sunday after being interrupted by rain on Saturday.
Flipkens and Babos got off to a difficult start, losing the first four games and missing two break points in their first service game of the second set. After the game resumed, they won four consecutive games to take the second set.
Davis and Van der Hoek retired in the third set at 2-1 and 40-0 down. Flipkens and Babos now face France’s Caroline Garcia and Brazilian Luisa Stefani in the next round on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Mertens and Australian Storm Hunter booked their place in the third round, following the retirement of their opponents in the second set.
On Saturday, Minnen and her Hungarian partner Anna Bondar won their second-round match, while Kimberley Zimmerman and Russia’s Yana Sizikova were knocked out. Mertens and Minnen's opponents will be known later on Sunday.
