Suspicious package at Brussels Midi station found to be harmless, train services resume

The suspicious package found on a train at the Brussels Midi railway station on Monday afternoon has proved to be harmless, announced the federal police. Train services to and from the station can resume. For the time being, however, no services are running on platforms 19 and 20. The disruption and delays are likely to be felt for some time to come.

All train services to and from the Brussels Midi railway station were suspended for a while on Monday afternoon because of the discovery of a suspicious bag on a train. The train was fully evacuated and a perimeter was established. DOVO (the army’s bomb disposal unit, ed.) came on site to further examine the bag, which turned out to be harmless.

Around six weeks ago, on 23 March, train services around Brussels Midi were also suspended, and the station was evacuated after three suspicious packages were found. It was only after around three hours that the station then could be reopened. In total, the train operator SNCB/NMBS then cancelled about 300 trains.
