Seven thousand people eat together in Antwerp, Easter and iftar in one
In the Borgerhout district of Antwerp, seven thousand people dined together on Sunday evening at a two-kilometre-long table on the Turnhoutsebaan. "We want to bring people from different backgrounds together to create connections and promote dialogue," says district mayor Mariam El Osri (Green).
Celebrate Easter together, enjoy an iftar meal or just enjoy a meal together. It was all possible on Sunday at a table of exactly 2,011 meters long, which immediately set a new Belgian record for the longest table.
The participants could find their spot from 7 p.m., and at 8 p.m., the drummers and the ‘giants’ from Borgerhout announced dinner time. After sunset, at 8:14 p.m., the meal started because then the fasting day for Muslims was over.
