Record number of registrations for Sunday's Brussels 20km
More than 45,000 people have registered for the Brussels 20km, which takes place in the capital on Sunday. The organisation says this is a record turn-out.
For the 44th edition of the event, runners and walkers from 90 countries will weave through some of the city's most notable monuments. 42 per cent of participants are women, an increase of 3.5 per cent compared to 2023. There are also 8,000 people registered as walkers this year.
The Red Cross has enlisted 430 volunteer first aiders and has a large aid station at the finish line in Cinquantenaire Park. A total of 13 aid stations have been installed on the course.
The first race was held in June 1980 with 4,659 participants. Since then, it has been held every year except for 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The start time for the para-sport participants is 9.30, followed by the main race at 10.00 and walkers at 10.50.
