Nick Cave's devilish art is coming to Brussels

In April, the Xavier Hufkens Gallery in Brussels will be exhibiting some remarkable ceramic works by Nick Cave. The series 'The Devil - A Life (2020-22)' presents different stages of the Devil's life.

Nick Cave, the Australian singer best known as the frontman of the rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, is coming to Brussels with his Lockdown project. When the pandemic made it impossible for him to perform live, the singer, who is also a writer, actor and artist, embarked on a ceramic project about the Devil.

From 2020 to 2022, Cave worked on a collection of ceramic sculptures called 'The Devil - A Life (2020-22)'. This collection was first exhibited in Finland last year. From 5 April to 11 May, the works will also be on show at the Xavier Hufkens Gallery in Brussels.

Nick Cave on Instagram: "The Devil – A Life is a series of 17 ceramic figures by Nick Cave. The series will be presented at Sara Hildén Art Museum (Tampere, Finland) in the exhibition Thomas Houseago – WE with Nick Cave & Brad Pitt until January 15 2023. In WE, Thomas Houseago has taken a radical response to the invitation for a solo exhibition at Sara Hildén Art Museum. By including artworks by his creative associates, he introduces the concept of WE, recontextualizing the concept of original creation to challenge the idea of the artist as a solitary individual and celebrate a more collectivist approach. The series comprises 17 ceramic sculptures, each representing a stage in the Devil's life. You'll see the Devil as a child and even in death. The sculptures visually express Cave's complex relationship with the Christian faith.

With its unique collection, Cave is exhibiting in one of Europe's leading galleries for contemporary art. With three locations in Brussels, Xavier Hufkens maintains a diverse programme of solo exhibitions by several generations of leading artists and estates.
