Lotus Bakeries expands Flanders site with fourth production hall

Belgian biscuit manufacturer Lotus Bakeries has officially launched construction of a new production hall for Biscoff biscuits at its site in Lembeke, East Flanders. CEO Jan Boone performed the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony on Tuesday.

Lotus Bakeries has been producing Biscoff biscuits in Lembeke for over ninety years. The biscuits made there are destined primarily for the European market. With three existing production halls, the site is already what Lotus describes as the largest single-product biscuit factory in Europe.

The company is now building a fourth production hall, to increase the site's total production capacity. Production in the fourth hall is expected to begin within two years. Lotus did not reveal the size of the investment or whether additional jobs would be created at the site.

"The new building will enable further expansion of Biscoff production in Belgium, support Biscoff's continued international growth and, at the same time, strengthen the geographically dispersed Biscoff production presence across three continents," the company said in a press release.

Listed on the Brussels stock exchange, Lotus Bakeries posted a turnover of 1.35 billion euros in 2025. It operates in more than seventy countries and employs around 4,150 people. It also has Biscoff factories in Thailand and the United States.
