Jeline Vandromme reaches final of US Open junior competition

Jeline Vandromme has qualified for the final of the junior draw at the US Open tennis tournament, the final Grand Slam event of the season. The 17-year-old from Bruges is the first Belgian finalist since Kirsten Flipkens, who won the junior event in 2003.
Seeded 14th in New York and ranked 21st in the junior draw, Vandromme dominated Britain’s Hannah Klugman, ranked 2, in the semi-finals on Friday. The match ended 6-3, 6-2.
She will face either Lea Nilsson of Sweden or Britain’s Mika Stojsavljevic in the final on Saturday.
Vandromme has now won 22 consecutive singles matches, including five victories in this fourth and final Grand Slam event of the season.
She had never previously advanced beyond the quarter-finals in a Grand Slam tournament. She reached that stage at Wimbledon and the French Open in 2024 and at the Australian Open this year.
Vandromme is also set to compete in the doubles semi-finals later on Friday, alongside Lithuanian Laima Vladson. They will face Thailand’s Kamonwan Yodpetch and China’s Ruien Zhang.
