Elise Mertens wins second Wimbledon doubles title

Belgium’s Elise Mertens has won the women’s doubles at Wimbledon for the second time. Mertens and Veronika Kudermetova defeated Hsieh Su-wei and Jelena Ostapenko 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in Sunday's final.
With the game standing at 5-4 in the deciding set, a break of Hsieh’s and Ostapenko’s serve secured the victory for the Belgian and Russian pair.
"There's no feeling like winning Wimbledon," Mertens said after the match.
"The match was very close today. I was so happy that we converted our first match point. I was really focused at the end. We both were. Then we just let all the emotions come out, because tennis is an emotional sport. We only come here once a year, so we try to be at our best. We are really lucky to have won this title together."
Mertens now has 22 doubles titles to her name, and two Wimbledon victories. She won her previous Wimbledon title in 2021, playing with Hsieh, her opponent on Sunday. The two also won last year’s Australian Open. With current partner Kudermetova, she won the WTA Finals in 2022.
In the Wimbledon singles competition, she was eliminated in the last 16 by Aryna Sabalenka, her former doubles partner and the world number one.
