International rail travel on the rise this summer
Rail operator SNCB has sold more than 128,000 international train tickets so far this summer. This is about 25 per cent more than in the previous record summer of 2019.
Around four in 10 international rail travellers who book through SNCB choose a destination in France, followed by the Netherlands (28 per cent), the UK (16 per cent) and Germany (13 per cent).
France also tops the list of cities: Paris is the most popular destination, followed by London and Amsterdam.
5,500 destinations
The SNCB International website offers tickets to 5,500 international destinations in 14 European countries. It intends to expand this offer in the coming years, especially with destinations in Spain, Austria and the UK.
The rail operator advises travellers to book as early as possible as tickets are often cheaper. It also points to the Interrail Pass, a ticket that allows passengers to travel by train in Europe for a fixed period at a fixed price.
