Flemish show Rough Diamonds 168th on Netflix's most watched list
For the first time, the streaming service Netflix has published detailed viewing figures for thousands of its shows and films. Flemish TV show Rough Diamonds was the 168th most popular title on the platform, accumulating more than 72 million viewing hours between January and June 2023.
Rough Diamonds is a co-production between Belgian production company De Mensen and its Israeli counterpart Keshet International. The show tells the story of an Orthodox Jewish family running a business in Antwerp, the diamond capital of the world, and features a mix of Flemish and Israeli actors.
Other Flemish shows on the list include the three seasons of Undercover (a total of 23 million viewing hours), Under Fire (7.4 million viewing hours) and Two Summers (6.3 million viewing hours). In total, non-English language shows account for 30 per cent of all content watched on Netflix.
Nearly 100 billion hours watched
A minimum of 50,000 hours is required for a show to be listed. More than 18,000 titles are included, representing nearly 100 billion hours of viewing, or 99 per cent of all viewing on Netflix. The first season of American action series The Night Agent tops the list with over 812 million hours watched.
The report, which will be published every six months, marks a significant change in the company's policy. In the past, it refused to release the data, saying it did not want to share it with competitors.
