Duvel Moortgat acquires two American beer brands

Belgian brewer Duvel Moortgat is acquiring the Stone Brewing and Trumer Pils beer brands in the United States, the company announced in a press release on Wednesday. No financial details were disclosed.
Duvel Moortgat's subsidiary Firestone Walker Brewing Company is acquiring the Stone Brewing brand from Sapporo USA, the American arm of the Japanese brewing group. Production facilities are not included in the deal. After a transition period of several months, brewing of the various Stone Brewing beers will be integrated into Duvel Moortgat's existing US breweries.
Separately, Firestone Walker Brewing signed an agreement with The Gambrinus Company a few weeks ago for the acquisition of the Trumer Pils brand. Firestone Walker will take charge of producing and selling the beer for the US market.
"With Stone Brewing and Trumer Pils, we are welcoming two strong and complementary brands into our family," said CEO Michel Moortgat. The move reinforces the group's long-term commitment to the US market, where it has been active for a number of years, the press release states.
Duvel Moortgat currently operates three breweries in the United States: Boulevard Brewing Company in Kansas City, Firestone Walker Brewing Company in California and Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, New York. In Belgium, the group is known for brands including Duvel, Vedett, La Chouffe, Liefmans and De Koninck.
