Digi Belgium CEO to step down

The CEO of telecoms operator Digi Belgium will leave the company on 30 June, he told Belga on Thursday, confirming a report published by De Tijd.
Jeroen Degadt took the helm of the company – formed through a merger between the Romanian operator Digi and the Belgian operator Citymesh – in 2023. Prior to that, he worked at Proximus for 18 years.
Digi’s launch in December 2024 was spectacular, with prices for mobile telecoms services well below those of its competitors. However, criticism of its service and infrastructure roll-out followed, and in May, the Brussels Court of Appeal confirmed that Digi had not installed its network in accordance with the regulations.
Recently, Degadt announced a commercial partnership with Bpost, under which people could subscribe to Digi via post offices.
According to the latest published figures, Digi had 99,000 mobile customers at the end of March. The initial target was much higher. The number of the company’s fixed-line internet subscribers, however, is unknown.
Degadt said he was satisfied with Digi’s achievements, referring in particular to the agreement with Bpost and the “democratisation of telecommunications”.
