De Lijn warns of disruptions on 12 March due to national union action

The Flemish public transport company De Lijn expects reduced bus and tram services next Thursday, 12 March, as unions participate in a national demonstration in Brussels against the government’s policies. The full extent of the disruption is not yet clear, De Lijn said on Wednesday.
An alternative service is being developed and will be available from the evening of 10 March.
"Passengers are advised to plan their journeys using the route planner on the De Lijn website or in the app. Trips that are not running will not appear in the route planner. On the stop and route pages, trips that are not running are indicated," the company said in a press release. It apologised for the inconvenience.
Brussels transport operator STIB/MIVB also warned of disruptions on 12 March. “Because the demonstration will pass through Brussels, some routes will be disrupted,” it said, advising passengers to seek alternative arrangements where possible.
In January, the trade unions were informed that, in addition to the 30 million euros that must be saved on De Lijn's services in 2026, a further 5.5 million euros in cuts are on the way. According to the unions, these will be felt most acutely in rural areas.
