De Lijn unions plan to strike for 9 days in protest against extra cuts by Flemish government

The trade unions at public transport operator De Lijn are submitting a strike notice for nine days of action in March and April, spread across Flanders. The reason is the additional cuts announced by the Flemish government at the end of January.
In January, the trade unions were informed that, on top of the 30 million euros that must be saved on De Lijn's services in 2026, a further 5.5 million euros in cuts are on the way. According to the unions, these will be felt most acutely in rural areas.
The unions then announced “a spring of action”. Now they are putting their words into action with a strike notice due to the Flemish government's “breach of contract”.
During the first week of action, from Monday 16 to Friday 20 March, days of action are planned in West Flanders, Antwerp, Flemish Brabant, Limburg and East Flanders, according to Stan Reusen, federal secretary of the socialist public sector trade union ACOD.
In the second week of action, from Monday 7 to Thursday 10 April, the action will take place in Flemish Brabant, Limburg and Antwerp. On Thursday, action will be taken in both East and West Flanders.
