DAZN to continue broadcasting Belgian football until mid-2027

Sports streaming platform DAZN has committed to broadcasting Belgian professional football until at least the end of next season, with plans extending into mid-2027, its lawyers told a Brussels court on Tuesday.

The assurance was given during a wider legal case focused on tackling online piracy. Major technology firms are challenging measures that require them to block access to illegal streaming sites. Earlier rulings had already ordered such companies to implement blocking systems at their own expense.

The update follows months of uncertainty over DAZN’s contract with Belgium’s Pro League. In late 2025, the league launched emergency arbitration after DAZN said it could not maintain the deal without a viable agreement with telecom operators. Arbitrators ruled that the broadcaster must continue showing matches and meet its payment obligations through the current season.

Despite a new five-year rights deal agreed in 2024 (worth significantly less than the previous contract), DAZN has struggled to secure distribution partnerships with major telecom providers. As a result, matches are currently available only via its own app.

Although tensions remain, the latest commitment suggests Belgian top-flight football will continue to be broadcast without interruption in the near term.
