DAZN to show Belgian and international cup football free until end of season

DAZN has announced that all remaining matches in the Belgian Cup (Croky Cup) will be free to watch for the rest of the season.
The streaming platform confirmed on Wednesday that the four quarter-finals next week, the two-legged semi-finals in February and the final on 14 May will all be available without a subscription on the DAZN app. Earlier rounds of the competition had been shown exclusively behind a paywall.
DAZN will also open up access to several international cup competitions. Football fans will be able to watch matches from the FA Cup in England, Italy’s Coppa Italia, Germany’s DFB-Pokal and the French Trophée des Champions free of charge for the remainder of the season.
However, viewers will still need a paid subscription to watch live matches from the Jupiler Pro League.
The move is seen as an attempt by DAZN to improve relations with fans during an ongoing dispute with the Belgian Pro League. In late November, DAZN said it was ending its broadcasting contract, arguing it could not reach a viable distribution deal with telecom operators.
Last week, arbitration body CEPANI ordered DAZN to continue broadcasting Belgian league matches and to keep paying the Pro League until the end of the season, despite the company’s attempt to end its contract.
