Paralympics: Cyclist Tim Celen wins sixth medal for Belgium
Tim Celen won bronze in the T1-2 cycling time trial at the Paralympic Games on Wednesday, securing a sixth medal for Belgium.
Celen was the fastest of the T2 riders after 14.2km in and around Clichy-sous-Bois, but had to concede gold and silver to T1 riders Jianxin Chen of China and Nathan Clement of Canada.
The T1-T2 time trial brings together athletes with different levels of disability. These differences are compensated for by factoring, where the finishing time of the T1 athletes is reduced by 12.66 per cent.
This is Celen's third Paralympics after Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. In Tokyo, he won silver in the road race and bronze in the time trial. The 26-year-old will also compete in the road race on Saturday.
Celen's success follows gold for wheelchair sprinter Maxime Carabin two silvers for cyclists Ewoud Vromant and Maxime Hordies and bronze for wheelchair sprinter Peter Genyn.
