Paralympics: Cyclist Ewoud Vromant wins silver in C2 time trial
Belgian cyclist Ewoud Vromant won silver in the Paralympic C2 time trial in Paris on Wednesday. Vromant finished the 14.2km race in and around Clichy-sous-Bois in a time of 19:26.61.
The 40-year-old from East Flanders was 2 seconds slower than France's Alexandre Léauté, who took gold in 19:24.45. Bronze went to Australian Darren Hicks.
Vromant made a strong start, posting the fastest intermediate time of 6:55.85 after 5.8km. Defending champion Hicks was more than 3 seconds behind, with French Paralympic pursuit champion Léauté another second behind.
Vromant also caught up with several riders in the second section, but it was not enough to stop Léauté from taking gold. The home rider proved to be slightly faster, while Hicks was more than 15 seconds behind the new Olympic champion at the finish.
Vromant took silver in the time trial in Tokyo three years ago. On Friday, he finished second behind Léauté in the 3km pursuit on the track.
