Cambio car-sharing system exceeds 1 million trips

The Belgian car-sharing system Cambio had another record year last year, exceeding 1 million trips for the first time, the company announced on Wednesday.

In 2023, the number of users increased by around 7,000 to 70,648. Cambio also expanded its fleet from around 2,200 vehicles to more than 2,700, in more than 100 places in Belgium. The exact number of trips made last year is not yet known.

"The growth in recent years proves that car sharing is becoming increasingly integrated into everyday mobility"

"With this result, Cambio is showing that, after more than 20 years, it remains a strong and robust player in the rapidly evolving and sometimes uncertain car-sharing sector," the company said. "The growth in recent years proves that car sharing is becoming increasingly integrated into everyday mobility."

According to Cambio, each shared car replaces an average of 15 private vehicles. In the coming year, the company aims to strengthen its market position, expand its offering and improve its app and service delivery.

Cambio was launched in Belgium in May 2002. It has cars available 24 hours daily at fixed locations in various cities. Users pay a fixed monthly amount plus a usage fee based on time and distance travelled.
