Brussels Region celebrates 36th anniversary this weekend with Iris Festival

The Brussels-Capital Region will mark its 36th anniversary with the Iris Festival on 3 and 4 May. A wide range of free activities for all ages is planned, along with concerts by international and local artists. "It will be a weekend full of surprises," promises visit.brussels in a press release.
As every year, the Iris Festival offers a packed programme of free events. On Saturday, Brussels residents can take part in guided tours of the Vorst town hall, ride a historic steam train, visit the town hall of Saint-Gilles or enjoy various activities organised in the municipality of Sint-Jans-Molenbeek. Anderlecht will also join the celebrations, hosting a walk through the Kuregem district, a petanque tournament and concerts.

In the evening, the Place des Palais in the heart of the capital will host the lively Iris Tipik Electro Night. The line-up features Fatboy Slim, The Magician, MYD and other artists, promising a "rousing" night of music and festivities.
On Sunday, Warande Park will transform into a series of themed villages celebrating sports, culture and science, with more than 80 organisations participating. A university village will also make its debut, with UCL and EPHEC universities joining for the first time. Visitors will be able to dance at the Kiosk in Warande Park, with bachata, traditional Cuban dance and zumba sessions on the schedule. Meanwhile, the youngest attendees can enjoy a dedicated Kids Village packed with activities.
The celebrations will also feature street theatre performances and the Iris Market, a special market highlighting Brussels' craftsmanship and local products.
