Iris Festival in Brussels welcomed around 100,000 visitors this weekend

The public celebrated the return of the Iris Festival en masse. After two years of absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 33rd anniversary of the Brussels Capital Region was celebrated this weekend by around 100,000 visitors.
The 100 years of the garden city festival, Europe Day, the Iris Food Corner and the themed villages were all reasons to come to Brussels. The Electro Night was Saturday night's first highlight for 15,000 partygoers, who danced on the Place des Palais to the music of DJs Kungs, Calumny, Todiefor and Jérémie Charlier. During the main act, the square even had to be closed due to overcrowding.
During the day, visitors had the opportunity to get to know the European institutions from the inside, and were able to stroll through the historic garden districts of the Belgian capital. On Sunday, the four themed villages in the Warande Park were a success. The families present were able to learn about the workings of the regional institutions through original activities.
The Brussels Parliament also opened its doors on Sunday for concerts and activities. In the Koningswijk, visitors were surprised by many street artists. There were about forty food trucks in the Iris Food Corner for those who wanted to have a bite to eat. Finally, public transport company STIB-MIVB provided a trip back in time with rides on some historical trams during its tram parade.
