Brussels parks closed to visitors ahead of predicted storm
Public parks in Brussels will be closed on Sunday afternoon as heavy storms are forecast for the region. The Sonian Forest and Brussels regional parks and nature reserves will close from midday as a precaution against expected winds of more than 80 km/h, Brussels Environment announced on Saturday evening.
Notices will be posted at entrances and rangers will be on site to inform visitors. Brussels Environment advises people to avoid trees in the whole region due to the risk of falling branches.
The closure is scheduled to end on Monday morning, when parks will be inspected, cleared and secured before reopening.
Meanwhile, music festivals including Brosella in Brussels and Les Ardentes in Liège have had to adjust their Sunday schedules as a result of the weather.
“The festival will definitely not start at 13.00,” said Brosella director Bert Schreurs. “The possibility of a shortened programme from 18.00 to midnight is being considered.”
