Bomb threat causes brief disruption at Brussels Airport

A bomb threat against an aeroplane at Brussels Airport caused brief disruption on Wednesday, the airport and federal police have confirmed, following reports by VRT.
The aircraft, which was due to fly to Berlin on behalf of Brussels Airlines, is currently still being searched. One runway was closed for a short period due to the threat, and three flights were diverted.
"The aircraft is being searched"
An airport spokesperson said that Brussels Airport was informed of a possible threat by the federal police this morning. Passengers and crew were disembarked, and the aircraft is being searched.
Disruption is over
"We can confirm that there was a bomb threat on an aircraft at Brussels Airport," said the federal police. "Our colleagues on site evacuated the aircraft and searched it."
According to the airport, the passengers and crew were brought to safety. "We closed a runway very briefly and diverted three flights. The disruption is now over."
Air Baltics
The flight in question was SN2581 from Brussels to Berlin. It is an Airbus A220 belonging to Air Baltic, which is flying on behalf of Brussels Airlines until the end of October.
"Everyone is safe"
The Airbus was moved to a remote stand at Brussels Airport, allowing the passengers and crew to disembark. "Everyone is safe," said Brussels Airlines, which has activated an assistance team to look after the passengers and crew.
"The authorities will now investigate the threat further," the airline said. As of Wednesday afternoon, the aircraft had not yet been cleared.
