Belgian pavilion at World Expo welcomes 300,000 visitors

More than 300,000 people have visited the Belgian pavilion at the World Expo in Osaka, the Belgian Commissariat-General for International Exhibitions announced on Friday.

Since the start of the expo on 13 April, 304,005 people have been to the Belgian pavilion. The site is dedicated to "human regeneration", restoring, improving and prolonging the quality of human life. Belgium presents itself as a world player in biotechnology, pharmaceutical innovations and medical research. 

Organisers hope to welcome a total of 900,000 people by the end of the event, which runs until 13 October.

“The fact that we have already welcomed more than 300,000 people in less than three months is great recognition for the work of the whole team and for the vision that Belgium is promoting here,” says Pieter De Crem, commissioner-general of the Belgian pavilion. “We hope to inspire many more thousands of visitors in the coming months.”

Some 130,000 people visit the World Expo every day, with an average of 4,900 people visiting the Belgian pavilion. On Thursday, in the middle of Flemish Week at the expo, there were a record 5,326 visitors in one day.

Flemish minister president Matthias Diependaele has been in Osaka all week, at the head of a mission focusing on life sciences.

On Thursday, he met executives of Japanese chemical companies and visited the Konishi sake brewery which is also a major importer of Belgian beers, including the brands of brewer Duvel Moortgat.
