Alexander Doom unable to defend world athletics indoor title

Belgium's Alexander Doom will miss the entire indoor athletics season and will not be able to defend his world title in the 400m in Nanjing, China in March. The 27-year-old will also miss the European Indoor Championships in the Netherlands, Het Laatste Nieuws reports. He is suffering from an injury to his adductor muscles.
Last year, Doom became the first Belgian man to take the indoor world title in the 400m. He also won gold with the 4x400m relay team at the event in Glasgow.
"We wanted to run at full speed, not at 80 per cent”
Doom struggled with his adductor muscles last season and was unable to finish his 400m semi-final at the Paris Olympics. That injury is still not entirely healed yet. Doom can train but cannot run at full speed through the bends. He will miss both the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, in early March and the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing two weeks later.
“The pain is as good as gone,” coach Koen Bellemans told Sporza. “But to get to the top level, we ran out of time. We wanted to run at full speed, not at 80 per cent.” Doom hopes to be ready to compete again by mid-April.
