Alexander Doom wins gold in 400m with new Belgian record

Belgium's Alexander Doom won the 400m at the World Indoor Athletics championships in Glasgow on Saturday evening. He beat the favourite, Norway's Karsten Warholm.

Doom, the only member of the Belgian Tornados men's relay team who is competing individually in Scotland, won the final with a Belgian record time of 45.25, beating the previous record of 45.44 set by Julien Watrin on 4 March 2023 in Istanbul.

He edged out Warholm, the European champion and world indoor record-holder, who finished second in 45.34. Jamaican Rusheen McDonald took third in 45.65. The victory is Belgium's second gold medal at the three-day tournament, following Noor Vidts' defence of her pentathlon title on Friday.
