Youth Orchestra Flanders performs with top violinist Sylvia Huang

The Youth Orchestra Flanders (YOF), Belgium's largest youth orchestra, will be on stage this weekend with Belgium's top violinist Sylvia Huang. Huang, who won the Audience Prize of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2019, will perform in Antwerp and Ghent with 85 young musicians aged between 16 and 25.

From the beginning of the summer holidays, the young musicians have been practising hard to master the difficult scores. First on their own at home, then all together during an intensive music camp. In total, the young people rehearsed more than a hundred hours each.

The programme includes a combination of works by the German composer Max Bruch and the French composers Louis Hector Berlioz and Claude Debussy. The internationally renowned violinist Sylvia Huang will perform together with the musicians.

It's not the first time the YOF is playing together with famous soloists. The youth orchestra has previously been on stage with violinist Lorenzo Gatto, cellist Camille Thomas and pianist Liebrecht Vanbeckevoort.

The Youth Orchestra Flanders and Huang perform on Saturday night in the Singel in Antwerp and on Sunday night in the Bijloke in Ghent, as the closing act of the summer festival Bijloke Wonderland.
