Woman in critical condition after being stabbed in Antwerp Central Station

A 69-year-old woman was stabbed on Thursday morning at Antwerp Central Station. The victim is in critical condition. This was confirmed by the Federal Police.

After speaking with witnesses, NMBS security was able to arrest a suspect a short time later, elsewhere in the station building.

The woman was stabbed at 11:20 while on board a train that had not yet left the station but with Leuven as its destination. Two witnesses who watched the event unfold were taken to the hospital to be treated for shock.

The exact circumstances of the incident are still under investigation, and police have cordoned off platform 12 on level -1 where the stabbing took place.
