Wife of American Goodyear CEO killed at home in Brussels

The wife of an American CEO of global tyre manufacturer Goodyear has been killed by a burglar at her home in Woluwe Saint-Pierre, Het Nieuwsblad and Sudpresse report. The tragedy occurred on 17 March but has become known only now.
According to the newspapers, the 61-year-old American woman arrived at her flat in Rue Roger Vandendriessche at around 20:00. An unknown man wearing a face mask was waiting at the door and presumably threatened her to get into the flat.
Once inside, he allegedly stabbed the victim and then fled with various expensive watches, worth several tens of thousands of euros, and jewellery.
Her husband, who came home later, found her and notified the emergency services, but they could only confirm the death. The husband is the CEO for the Middle East, Africa and Europe regions of Goodyear Europe. The couple had been living in Brussels for several years.
The woman's body has since been repatriated to the US, where she will be buried next Wednesday. She leaves behind four children and two grandchildren.
The perpetrator is thought to be still at large. The Brussels public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation for manslaughter and is not commenting further for now.
