Volleyball World Championship: Belgium set up quarter-final against Italy

Belgium have reached the quarter-finals of the Volleyball World Championship in the Philippines. The Red Dragons beat Finland 3-0 in their last-16 match in Pasay City and will face Italy on Wednesday.

The Belgian men advanced to the knockout phase as group winners, following 3_0 victories against Ukraine and Algeria and a shock 3-2 win over defending world champions Italy. Finland finished second in their group behind Argentina, after two wins and one defeat.

Italy secured their place in the quarter-finals earlier on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Argentina.

The other quarter-final in Belgium’s half of the draw is Poland v Türkiye. The last-16 matches in the other half of the draw take place on Monday and Tuesday.

Belgium finished 10th in 2018, but failed to qualify in 2022. Eighth place in 1970 remains the best result from the tournament.
