Vlaanderen Digitaal ‘Flanders Digital’ wins yearly Belgian Digital Society Awards

Vlaanderen Digitaal, led by administrator-general Barbara Van Den Haute is the big winner of what was previously called the Egov Awards, held in Tervuren, Flanders. The agency was created in the beginning of 2021 by the Flemish government with the objective of digitally transforming the government and assisting its citizens. It has a total of 640 employees.

Specifically, Mijn Burgerprofiel ‘My Citizen Profile’, part of Vlaanderen Digitaal was praised for its user friendly qualities by receiving the ‘Best Project Award’. By logging into the portal, Belgian citizens obtain full access to their personal governmental administration, personal requests, files, certificates and other important information available for them at all times.

The Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic was awarded twice: Best Smart City Project and Best Innovation. Their intelligent traffic installations make sure that traffic lights automatically turn green when an ambulance arrives.

The trophy for Best Profitability went to Crossborder of the Federal Ministry of Justice, where information about traffic fines is exchanged between the European member states.

The award for Most Sustainable Project went to the municipality of Bertrix Ardennes, situated in Wallonia. With its zero waste platform, called Serious Game Zero Déchet, the city aims to raise awareness for a circular approach to the climate.
