Vatican commission in Brussels to discuss tackling abuse in the Church

A Vatican commission arrived in Brussels on Thursday for a meeting with Belgian bishops where they will discuss the approach to sexual abuse within the Church. Victims will be invited to a meeting with representatives of the Pope on Friday.

Little information has been released so far about the meeting. The main objective is to discuss ways of cooperating against sexual abuse.

A meeting between victims and the Vatican delegation is also planned for Friday, without the bishops. Koen Van Sumere, one of the victims, confirmed to Belga on Thursday that a meeting with Pope Leo XIV would again be discussed.

The commission confirmed in June that a meeting would take place, but no date has been set. Other issues will also be discussed, but an announcement will be made at a later date so that the discussions can take place “in a calm atmosphere”, according to Van Sumere.
