US and Ukraine report ‘productive’ Geneva talks on Trump peace plan

The United States and Ukraine said their Geneva meeting on Sunday yielded “productive” progress on revising President Donald Trump’s controversial peace plan for ending the war with Russia.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the session “the most productive and meaningful” since talks began, while Ukrainian negotiator Andriy Yermak said both sides were “moving towards a just and lasting peace”. Further discussions are planned in the coming days. Rubio insists he is confident Trump will approve a revised proposal.
Kyiv first met British, French and German security advisers on Sunday before holding separate talks with Washington.
Trump’s 28-point plan, criticised in Europe for aligning closely with Moscow’s demands, would require Ukraine to cede all of Donetsk and Luhansk, cut its armed forces to about 600,000, forgo NATO membership and hold rapid elections. European allies said in Geneva they view the document only as a starting point and have tabled counter-proposals.
Rubio is expected to brief reporters again later on Sunday as negotiations continue.
